We intend to make the experience of learning with Interactive English in the future as close as possible to how it was before the covid-19 pandemic, but there will be a number of changes in the ways we do things at the school.
Our number one priority is the health and well-being of our students and staff, and so, the following policies will be put in place.
SOCIAL DISTANCING: All persons in the school will be required to keep at least 2 metres apart at all times wherever this is possible. The classrooms will be arranged to ensure that this distance is maintained whenever the students are sitting, and this means that class sizes will be smaller than they were in the past. Outside of the classroom, we will ask the students to pay attention to this while going up and down the stairs and relaxing in the lounge. To help with this, all classes and breaks will start and finish at different times.
FACE COVERINGS: In line with government advice, all persons in the school will be required to wear a face covering that covers their mouth and nose. This could be a purpose-made mask, scarf, or bandana. In line with the school’s policy on the environment, we will encourage everybody to NOT use single-use face masks, although we will keep a small stock of these in the school in cases of necessity.
PERSONAL HYGIENE: Because there are limited facilities for handwashing in the school, pump bottles of hand sanitiser will be placed near the door of each room in the school. All persons will be required to use this hand sanitiser every time they enter or leave a room, and before they touch anything that other people will touch; e.g. coffee pot, desktop computers.
SCHOOL PREMISES: To avoid unnecessary risk of contamination, all doors in the school (except to the toilets) will be kept open from when the school opens until it closes, and all lights in rooms that are in use will be kept on. All surfaces that people will be in contact with will be disinfected after each use; e.g. chair arms after each class, coffee pot after each break. In addition to this, good ventilation will be maintained by having at least one window in each room open.
MATERIALS: Each student will receive a course book and an exercise book, which will be disinfected before they are given to the student. You will be strongly encouraged to bring them both to school every day as we will not allow students to share books with each other.
EXTRA MATERIALS: Wherever possible, extra materials (worksheets, handouts, etc.) will be given in electronic form by email or text message. Where it is necessary to give paper handouts, the teacher will sanitise his/her hands before handling the papers.
SYMPTOMS: We will not test everybody’s temperature when they arrive in the school, but if you feel unwell or have any symptoms of Covid-19, we ask you to please not attend school until your symptoms have gone, you have self-isolated for the required amount of time, or have received a negative test result. If we suspect that any student or member of staff has symptoms, we will send them home straight away.
